Being their Bible...

Today our church hosted it’s second SOS Sunday (service outside the sanctuary), where we spend most of our normal worship times serving others through many different avenues. Before we head out to serve we do have a short worship service with a quick message from our minister and today’s message really spoke to me. He made it a point to say several times that today I may be the only Bible a person will read. This really hit me hard was I truly living like a walking talking Bible, I mean most know that I attend church weekly and have a strong relationship with the Lord but am I showing what it truly means to be a Christian. Honestly Probably NOT.

As I sat there in that pew truly hearing what he was saying I made a vow to myself that I was going to change that. I may not be better every day but I was making this a priority starting today. And this week I would make this a focus as well. He closed his message and we headed out to do our work. I am in charge of the freezer meal portion of this day we successfully sent out many meals to several elderly individuals in our church. Meals that I pray will make their lives a little easier. Once the work was done the hubs helped me load everything up I needed to take home and he headed out to work on a mower while I headed to Walmart. I truly felt refreshed and refocused on living my life a little better.

Then life happened. I had a nice afternoon with the kids, cleaned, played, cleaned, did a little cooking for dinner with my in-laws, cleaned, baked with Charlot. It was nice. The hubs came home earlier than I had expected him, always a good thing, to start the grill for supper. He then tells me that he needs to run out and check the cows, I feel myself getting frustrated with him. He heads out to check and it takes much longer than I anticipated (he as well I’m sure), the sides I have prepared are waiting, the kids are getting hungry/fussy, I getting frustrated, supper is much later than we normally eat. By this point I can feel myself getting cold and short with the hubs. After supper is cleaned up, bathes are given, bedtime has happened, both kids are in bed. I am just down right unhappy. He and I both sit down for basically the first time all night it’s late we are both tired. He asks if I am ok and I just unload all the questions about why he was late, why he didn’t do this or that or whatever. Way more than I should have but I just couldn’t seem to stop. He said he was sorry, I said I know and I headed to bed.

I laid there unable to sleep still hearing my ministers message in my head, you may be the only bible someone reads today, I was ready to start my week with this focus. Then it hit me this isn’t just for the people outside of my home…I have two pairs of very young eyes that watch every move I make and can tell when mommy is frustrated. If I want them to love the Lord with all their hearts and lead their lives in a way that shows it, I cannot have the do as I say don’t do as I do attitude. I can’t just be the bible outside of our house I have to be that at home as well, they read me more than they read anything else. Even in the moments of frustration I have to try to show patience, kindness and understanding. In the moments of heartache, I have to show them strength. In the moments of joy and celebration I have to show them humility and happiness. Will I be perfect; no. Will I stumble will I even fall; of course. But if I don’t the rest of the world isn’t out there doing it for me.

So why open my book today for you guys. Being a wife and a mother is the biggest blessing the Lord has bestowed upon me and I am determined to show each day how thankful I am for this. I have the most important job in the world in teaching my children to be the best people they can be. But that starts with me. I guess for me my biggest reason is I need to be real I need to put this out there I need to express my feeling and I need others to know I will struggle but I am doing my best. I want other wife’s and moms to see this to feel this to know it is ok to have to shake it off, restart, and refocus because those little eyes are watching and reading the bible you are showing them.

Thanks for listening and I hope each of you can take something from this. And this morning I woke the hubs up early (I know he was happy) to say I was sorry for being short, and playing the blame game. That I wanted to be better not just for me but for him and our two little stinks. He answered you are better each day. There are many reasons I love this man.

Date with the Hubs...

I probably should have titled this date planned (hahaha) by the hubs. On Sunday afternoon we loaded up everything and headed home from the fair (Yes a state fair post or 2 will be coming). We got out to my parents got all the animals and equipment unloaded safely then stuck around for supper. After supper I heard the hubs ask Charlot if she and Conrad wanted to stay here with Grandma and Pap while momma and daddy went to check cattle. I was slightly excited for a little quite time with just the hubs even if it included cattle checking. And I know my parents love when my kiddos are present so they didn't seem to mind. Off we headed to the pasture of cattle that are not real far from my parents house. The above picture of the hubs is perfect, he is completely in his element anytime he is observing livestock. The man has a love of animals like no other.

Here are a few of the calves out of registered heifers we purchased last year, or so the hubs told me. I said they are really pretty. He said they should be their out of a million dollar bull. Say what when did we get a million dollars. The joke didn't go real far with the hubs, ok he did humor me and laugh a little.

And here's one of those calves momma's. She was pretty sweet and following my a bit to close for comfort. Like a lot to close. You have all heard my fear of cattle I'm not getting into that again.

Then there is this beauty, this is butters she is old like real old but she is still productive, notice the calf at her side. I am well aware that is the only reason she is still around as the hubs prefers black cattle. I'm a fan of her blonde hair and whiteish face, she's pretty and stands out in the crowd refusing to blend in I feel we are connected in a way. Like she is my spirit animal or possibly I just feel old as well but still like to stand out in a crowd.

Now this moment happened, this ole girl 495 loves cubes and will come and try to get them from you weather you have them or not. I didn't mind her she was sweet and not jumpy and didn't throw her head around so we got along...that was until......

Moments later after I put my life out there and let her lick my hand I nearly saw my life end! I turn and see the bull coming up out of the pasture towards us I said is that the same bull as last year (he wasn't terrible). The hubs says...oh no that's Johnnie's. Oh perfect. And in that moment he decided to jump up and head straight towards us, he was playing (the hubs words). He was establishing his dominance and I was more than glad to let me have it. I high tailed my rump out of there as the hubs is shouting running is the worst thing you can do! I didn't care it was fight or flight time and flight was my choice! I made it to the truck got in and didn't leave again until we got back to my parents.

We walk back into my parents house and my dad says well your son has had two dirty diapers in the hour you were gone. I said lovely. The hubs says well you might want to check your daughters diaper as well!

The reasons I love this man continue!

Happy Birthday Hubs....

Happy Birthday HUBS!!! I know you love seeing yourself on the blog! You see I didn't put a picture of you alone on here! And I know you love this picture because it has gab in it. Who cares if makes you look balder than you already are. Ok you really are losing hair at a rapid rate but it's probably because you live with all these women. Maybe the new baby will be a boy and he can help add some balance to your life and hair line! HA!

Anyway happy birthday! I sure am glad that I get to make this crazy journey with you, there have been ups and downs and tears and joys but through it all you have been there to make me smile and laugh oh man do we laugh a lot. I will say laughing with you (or at you) is one of my favorite things in the whole wide world.

Thank you for being an amazing husband, father, provider, and friend. I couldn't ask for any better! I sure hope you enjoyed your day off with the girls, I wish I could have been there but less than three weeks and baby time I need to get some work done.

These pictures show just how much she loves and adores you she will never forget this day and all the days you spend with her!

Hubs Gabby, Charlot and I love you very much and are so glad that God chose us to be a family!!!

Friday Fast 5...on the Hubs

I speak often about my loving husband but I don't know if there has ever really been a time that I have told you guys much about him so today's the day. And I am not promising these will be exactly fast. I just like this title sorry!

1. I can almost guarantee that the bulk of his discussions will revolve around agriculture...somehow some way.
Case in point as we were watching the Bachelor After the Rose show the other night, yes we were watching it. Jimmy Kimmel gave the newly engaged couple a cow as a gift. I am thinking hahaha making fun of the farm boy by giving him a cow.
The hubs on the other hand...says and I am quoting,"that's probably the biggest boned Holstein I've ever seen." Me..."really that's what you took from the cow as a gift." The hubs..."well I don't think that was actually a cow, she looked like a heifer to me." I didn't ask or say any more.

Another case- I still can't believe he told me this. Right after we found out we were prego with Charlot he was talking to a friend of his on the phone. And I guess the fact that I was pregnant came up, apparently his friend said oh well she's a green tagger now. I really didn't know what that meant...well in sale barns when they sell bred cows/heifers they tag them with colors according to how far along they are in their pregnancy. Oh man I am proud.

2. He has a come back for everything, I say or request.
We were discussing the purchase of some new cows  (heifers actually), and frankly I don't know much about the cattle side of what the hubs does, pigs are my thing. Anyway I made the mistake of saying well if you have some extra money laying around you could purchase this new Michael Kors purse I have been eye balling. He looks at me and smiles (at this point I know I'm done) and says, "well when your purse can nurse a calf next spring we can talk." Awesome!

3. His favorite foods include
Pork burgers
Lasagna
Pork Steak
Pork Chops
Oh and Pork Sausage
Notice a trend

4. His favorite times in life
When he is with the pigs
When he is with his cows
When he is hunting
When he doesn't have to leave Saline County
Oh and hanging out at home with Charlot and I
I am pretty sure that these are in the correct order

5. If he could live or travel to anywhere besides where we live...
COLORADO HANDS DOWN!!!

I am glad I could share this with you he will be so happy you all know these things about him! Maybe I'll get him to do an interview soon to reveal more about himself. Please don't hold your breath.
